[ARCHIVED] Ashburn Woman Charged with Animal Cruelty; Officials Remind Residents of Assistance Available

Loudoun County Animal Services, with assistance from the Loudoun County Sheriff’s Office, recently executed a search warrant at a residence in Waterford, Virginia, where Animal Control discovered a deceased dog that was owned by Anna L. Brunk, 22, of Ashburn, Virginia. Brunk was subsequently arrested and charged with animal cruelty.

Brunk is scheduled to be arraigned on September 12, 2012, in Loudoun General District Court. If found guilty, Brunk could receive a maximum sentence of 12 months in jail and $2500 in fines.

“This is a tragic circumstance and outcome that could have been avoided, because we live in a community where many resources exist for the purpose of re-homing pets,” says Animal Services Director Tom Koenig. Koenig added, “As a county resource, we implore citizens to contact Animal Services or any one of the many non-profit agencies in the region for assistance if they are unable to care for or no longer wish to own their pets.”

The Loudoun County Department of Animal Services is located at 39820 Charles Town Pike, Waterford, VA 20197. Animal Services can be reached seven days a week by calling 703-777-0406. Department information can be found at www.loudoun.gov/animals.
