Loudoun County Public Library Board of Trustees members Denis Cotter and Christina Olorunda began their terms as Chair and Vice Chair, respectively, on Monday, July 1. Both were unanimously elected to their new roles during the Trustees’ monthly meeting Wednesday, June 19, 2019.

Cotter, who served as Vice Chair the previous year, is originally from Ireland and has lived in Middleburg since 1986. He is a long-time advocate for public library services in Loudoun County and led the public-private partnership to expand the Middleburg Library in 2013.

“I am delighted to have the opportunity to lead the governance of our superb public library system,” said Cotter. “Public libraries are about joy and hope – they entertain and educate – they help the soul exceed its circumstance. I look forward to working with my fellow Trustees, our excellent Director Chang Liu and staff, the County Supervisors and County staff and – most importantly – the local communities to continually improve this great library.”

Cotter, who represents the Blue Ridge District, first joined the Board in February 2017. He replaces former Chair Mark Miller, who completed his eight years of service in June.

Olorunda, her husband and two children have been residents of Ashburn since 2007. In addition to representing the Ashburn District as a Library Trustee since July 2016, she also serves on the boards of several nonprofit organizations.

“I am honored to be the new Vice Chair of the Loudoun County Public Library Board of Trustees,” said Olorunda. “Loudoun is a wonderful place to live, work and play. I look forward to serving our community and working with the Library Director and the staff in continuing to make LCPL an incredible community resource.”

Cotter and Olorunda will lead their first Trustees’ meeting Wednesday, July 17, 2019, at 7:00 p.m. in the Lovettsville Library, 12 North Light Street in Lovettsville. The public is invited to attend.

“I’m thrilled to have Mr. Cotter as our Chair and Ms. Olorunda as our Vice Chair,” said Liu. “I’m confident that with their leadership and support, Loudoun County Public Library will continue to flourish and make an even greater impact on our community.”
