Loudoun County’s Lead Animal Control Officer, Angela Chan, has been recognized for her courage by the Virginia Animal Control Association. Chan is the recipient of the organization’s Valor Award for her role in the seizure of ten dogs on the Dulles Greenway in September.

The Valor Award is given by the Virginia Animal Control Association to an officer who has demonstrated exceptional performance and bravery in the line of duty during a difficult or dangerous assignment.

Chan was nominated for the Valor Award because of her courageous work in the seizure of ten pit bull-type dogs on the Greenway on September 7, 2012, said Tom Koenig, Director of the Department of Animal Services. The case led to the arrest and conviction of a Georgia man. The General District Court awarded custody of the dogs to the Department of Animal Services. “We are so proud of Officer Chan’s outstanding work in this case which is typical of her courage and commitment to protecting the animals in our community,” Koenig said.

The Loudoun County Department of Animal Services is located at 39820 Charles Town Pike, Waterford, VA 20197. Animal Services can be reached seven days a week by calling 703-777-0406. More information is online at www.loudoun.gov.animals.
