[ARCHIVED] New Courthouse Construction to Impact Church Street Area in Leesburg

Image of rendering of new Loudoun County Courthouse

Beginning June 9, 2020, residents who drive or walk through the Town of Leesburg may notice an increase in construction activity along Church Street NE, near the site of the new Loudoun County Courthouse.

The sidewalk on the east side of Church Street will close to pedestrians through the duration of the construction project. In addition, the street will temporarily narrow to vehicle traffic due to the installation of construction fencing; this construction is expected to last 15 to 20 days, after which the road will be restored to its current width for vehicle traffic.

In the coming months, Church Street is expected to close while a tunnel under the road is constructed. The county will announce the planned closure of Church Street in advance.

In addition, those in the vicinity of the new courthouse should expect an increase in construction noise as the contractor works to remove an old building foundation that is currently buried on-site. This work is expected to last two weeks.

Visitors to the Loudoun County Courthouse will continue to have access to the existing building. Free parking is available in the Pennington Lot and Pennington Garage, which is located off of Church Street, approximately two blocks from the courthouse.
