Two Loudoun County transportation improvement projects intended to ease traffic congestion are among the projects included in the FY 2020-2025 Six-Year Program adopted by the Northern Virginia Transportation Authority (NVTA) July 9, 2020. The Loudoun projects that received funding to advance to construction are:

  • Construction of Crosstrail Boulevard from Sycolin Road to the Dulles Greenway with a funding amount of $36.7 million.
  • Widening of Arcola Mills Drive (formerly Evergreen Mills Road) from Northstar Boulevard to Stone Springs Boulevard with a funding amount of $18 million.

A total of $1.44 billion in multimodal transportation funding was requested by 13 Northern Virginia localities and agencies. The NVTA unanimously voted to allocate $539 million to fund 21 transportation projects to reduce traffic congestion in 11 jurisdictions and agencies in Northern Virginia.

Loudoun County Board of Supervisors Chair Phyllis J. Randall, who also serves as NVTA Chair, said: “The regional collaboration and ability to look beyond jurisdictional lines is truly remarkable and a benefit to all Northern Virginians, as well as those traveling through the D.C. metropolitan area.”

With the adoption of the FY2020-2025 Six-Year Program, and implementation of its four previous funding programs, the NVTA is advancing 106 regional multimodal transportation projects, totaling nearly $2.5 billion, for congestion reduction throughout the region.
