[ARCHIVED] Loudoun Election Officials Urge Absentee Voters to Turn in Ballots Now

Loudoun County election officials ask that voters who have not yet returned their completed absentee ballots for the November 3, 2020, General Election do so as soon as possible. Officials are encouraging voters to take their absentee ballots to any one of the more than one dozen drop-off locations in the county, which will be available until 5:00 p.m., Saturday, October 31.

The locations of the drop boxes, which include the branches of the Loudoun County Public Library, are online at loudoun.gov/voteathome.

Anyone who misses the October 31 deadline may drop off their absentee ballot at the Office of Elections and Voter Registration, 750 Miller Drive SE, Suite C, Leesburg, Monday, November 2, from 8:30 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. and Tuesday, November 3, from 6:00 a.m. – 7:00 p.m.  In addition, voters may drop off their absentee ballots at their polling places on Election Day from 6:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m.

Loudoun County election officials mailed about 80,000 absentee ballots for this election and there are about 13,000 ballots still outstanding.

“We are pleased that such a high percentage of ballots have been returned so far, but we are strongly urging voters who have not yet sent in their ballot to use the drop box option over mailing at this late stage,” said Loudoun County General Registrar Judy Brown.

Brown adds that voters who requested and received an absentee ballot by mail, but who have changed their mind and now want to vote in person, must bring the ballot with them to their polling place in order to vote. Voters who choose that option should be prepared for a longer-than-normal wait time because of the process involved in surrendering the ballot.

More information about the election is online at loudoun.gov/novemberelection.
