FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Loudoun County, VA (November 16, 2020)- The Loudoun County Sheriff’s Office (LCSO) achieved the agency’s lowest vacancy rate in decades with most new hires coming from neighboring agencies.

An internal report released last month determined the LCSO currently has a 4.3% vacancy rate (includes pending hires) amongst sworn personnel. In addition, just within the past two years LCSO has hired 55 pre-certified law enforcement officers from Virginia and an additional 17 sworn officers from out of state. The new hires have filled positions in both patrol and corrections.

“The Loudoun County Sheriff’s Office is widely recognized as one of the most successful, professional, and highly regarded local law enforcement agencies in the nation,” said Loudoun County Sheriff Mike Chapman. “We are hiring the best of the best and continue to receive applications from officers and deputies in our area wanting to join our team,” Sheriff Chapman added.

LCSO continues to be the most effective and innovative law enforcement agency in Virginia and the Baltimore/Washington area when it comes to training, professionalism, crisis intervention and de-escalation, and keeping communities safe. LCSO has a nearly 90% public approval rating according to a recent Loudoun County Government-Initiated citizen survey and reported a 34% decline in serious crime since Sheriff Chapman began his first term in 2012, according to the Metropolitan Council of Governments Report on Crime and Control.

The LCSO has been recognized locally, statewide, and nationally as a model agency:

Named a Model Agency for Law Enforcement in Virginia by the Virginia Law Enforcement Professional Standards Commission (VLEPSC).

Received the School Resource Officer Model Agency of the Year Award by the National Association of School Resource Officers (NASRO).

Recognized by the Virginia Department of Criminal Justice Services for its Field Training Officer program which will be implemented by law enforcement throughout the Commonwealth of Virginia.

Received the Virginia Association of Counties Award Model Government Award for the sUAS Project Lifesaver Program.

Since 2007, achieved a 100% rating in the Compliance Audit conducted by the Commonwealth of Virginia Department of Corrections for the Loudoun County Adult Detention Center.

The LCSO has also been a leader in police reform, having accomplished all of Virginia’s mandated improvements legislated this year, several years in advance. These improvements include certification, accreditation, prohibition on neck restraints, and de-escalation training (Crisis Intervention Training).
