PROBATIONER SENTENCED TO FOUR YEARS IN PRISON FOR BURGLARY
TWO YEARS AND FIVE MONTHS REVOKED FOR 2008 DRUG DISTRIBUTION

LEESBURG, Virginia – January 14, 2013. Loudoun Judge Burke F. McCahill sentenced Nicholas Golden, 27, to 10 years with 6 years suspended in the Virginia Department of Corrections in connection with a January 2012 burglary in Ashburn. Golden entered a plea of guilty to the felony breaking and entering charge in Loudoun County Circuit Court on August 30, 2012.

Golden was stopped on January 9, 2012 by a Loudoun County Sheriff’s Office Deputy after reports were received of a suspicious male walking around the golf course and in between houses in the Belmont area of Ashburn. After advising the Deputy that he was a convicted felon and was currently on probation for a drug distribution charge, Golden’s bag was searched. Located inside the bag was a Barnes and Noble Nook e-reader and approximately $10,000 worth of jewelry. It was later determined that these items were stolen from a house less than a few hundred yards from where Golden was stopped.

The Judge also re-imposed a 2 year and 5 month previously suspended sentence for a 2008 drug distribution charge for which Golden was still on probation.

“Thanks to alert neighbors and the Sheriff’s Office quick response, all of the stolen items were able to be returned to their owner in good condition” said Commonwealth’s Attorney Jim Plowman. “While this case had a favorable outcome for the victim, not everyone is so fortunate.”

The Loudoun County Sheriff’s Office and the Loudoun County Commonwealth’s Attorney’s Office have developed a video of what residents can do to help prevent them from becoming a victim of burglary, and what you should do if your home or business is burglarized. The informational video contains general information about burglary prevention as well as discusses the Sheriff’s Office’s Operation Inventory Program.
