[ARCHIVED] New Individual Income Tax Filing and Payment Deadline

Loudoun Commissioner of the Revenue Robert S. Wertz, Jr. wants residents to know that Virginia has extended the deadline for individual income tax returns and payments for Tax Year 2020. Virginia’s filing and payment which were originally due May 1, 2021 are now due on or before May 17, 2021.  As a result, no penalties will apply so long as a return is filed, and full payment is made by May 17, 2021. In addition, pursuant to the Virginia Department of Taxation’s authority to waive the accrual of interest during a declared state of emergency in the Commonwealth, no interest will apply so long as a return is filed, and full payment is made by May 17, 2021.

More information about Virginia Income Taxes is available at www.tax.virginia.gov.  Virginians can get answers to individual income tax questions by calling 804-367-8031.  Answers to questions concerning state business taxes can be obtained by calling 804-367-8037. Additional information about Virginia’s extended deadline can be found in Tax Bulletin 21-5.
