[ARCHIVED] "Step Up Loudoun" Teen Competition Finals in April

Preliminary and final rounds of the second annual Step Up Loudoun teen competition will be held April 12 and April 19, 2012. Both rounds are open to the public and take place from 6:00 p.m.-9:00 p.m. at Dominion High School, 21326 Augusta Drive, Sterling, VA.

Last fall, the Step Up Loudoun Planning Committee issued a “call to action” to Loudoun’s middle and high school students, challenging them to create and implement a solution to an issue faced by Loudoun youth. The goal of the competition is to provide participants the opportunity to recognize, appreciate, and leverage the assets of Loudoun County to make positive changes in their own lives and the lives of others.

The topics selected range from bullying to nutrition to gang violence. Entries include blogs, rallies, information campaigns, and websites. The top three entries will receive cash prizes provided through Loudoun Youth, Inc. Entries will be judged on the depth of issue analysis, quality of the solution, effectiveness of implementation, originality, and thoroughness of preparation.
. Students will exhibit displays detailing their issue, solution and implementation at the preliminary rounds on April 12. The top ten entries will advance to the final round of competition scheduled for April 19. Finalists will present their projects before a panel of judges and Step Up participants.
