[ARCHIVED] Board of Supervisors Approves Nonprofit Human Service Grant Funding Awards for FY 2023

The Loudoun County Board of Supervisors approved annual awards for funding to community nonprofit organizations during its May 3, 2022, meeting. Funding opportunities were made available to tax-exempt, private, nonprofit 501(c)3 organizations that provide human services to Loudoun County residents in the areas of need identified and approved by the Board of Supervisors for Fiscal Year 2023 (FY 2023), which begins July 1, 2022.

The areas of need are:

  • Prevention and Self-Sufficiency: Services focused on assisting individuals and families in becoming and/or remaining independent and stable, and providing tools, skills, strategies, and resources to individuals and families.
  • Crisis Intervention and Diversion: Services provided to individuals and families in crisis to overcome immediate problems, and reduce or prevent the need for more restrictive and expensive higher-level services. 
  • Long-Term Support: Services that focus on assisting individuals who have continuing, long-term support needs to remain healthy, safe and independent in the community. 
  • Improved Quality of Human Services: Services and opportunities provided to individuals, organizations and communities that enhance the quality, accessibility, accountability and coordination of services provided by community organizations.

The county’s FY 2023 Adopted Budget includes a $1,864,647 allocation for this year’s competitive grant process and the mini-grant process in addition to $2,870,658 in funding for core human services and partnership grants.

Standard Competitive Grants

Through the county’s standard competitive grants process, 28 nonprofit organizations were selected to receive more than $1.8 million in grant funding for FY 2023. The nonprofit grant awards were capped at $113,000. The organizations receiving funding are:

  • All Ages Read Together ($49,406.80)
  • Arlington Partnership for Affordable Housing (APAH) ($47,642.04)
  • Catholic Charities Diocese of Arlington ($106,220.00)
  • Community Foundation for Loudoun and Northern Fauquier Counties ($62,712.27)
  • Crossroads Jobs ($20,832.00)
  • Dulles South Food Pantry ($35,014.50)
  • ENDependence Center of Northern Virginia, Inc. ($99,440.00)
  • Friends of Loudoun Mental Health ($26,721.60)
  • INMED Partnerships for Children ($106,220.00) 
  • Insight Memory Care Center ($36,200.00)
  • Legacy Farms  ($35,812.50)
  • Legal Services of Northern Virginia ($67,922.80)
  • Loudoun Cares ($64,320.00)
  • Loudoun Habitat for Humanity ($66,375.00)
  • Loudoun Hunger Relief, Inc. ($106,220.00)
  • Loudoun Literacy Council ($113,000.00)
  • Loudoun Serenity House (LSH) ($63,700.00)
  • Mobile Hope Association ($21,670.46)
  • Northern Virginia Family Service ($34,051.80)
  • Northern Virginia Resource Center for Deaf and Hard of Hearing Persons ($41,167.77)
  • Opportunities, Alternatives, and Resources (OAR) ($105,655.00)
  • Piedmont Dispute Resolution Center ($26,925.82)
  • SCAN of Northern Virginia ($85,165.24)
  • The Arc of Loudoun ($101,700.00)
  • The Chris Atwood Foundation ($101,135.00)
  • The Ryan Bartel Foundation ($60,564.60)
  • Windy Hill Foundation, Inc. ($17,800.00)
  • Women Giving Back ($109,551.80)

Competitive Mini-Grants

Eleven organizations will receive a total of $51,500 in mini-grant funding  – requests of $5,000 or less  – which helps smaller organizations build capacity or support small-scale innovative ideas or projects. Those organizations, each of which were awarded their requested amount, are: 

  • American Turkish Friendship Association (ATFA) ($5,000.00)
  • BDesh Foundation, Inc. ($5,000.00)
  • Help for Others, Inc. ($5,000.00)
  • Just Neighbors Ministry Inc. ($5,000.00)
  • Loudoun Wildlife Conservancy ($5,000.00)
  • Loudoun Youth, Inc. ($5,000.00)
  • Love, KK ($5,000.00)
  • Rx Drug Access Partnership, dba Rx Partnership (RxP) ($4,500.00)
  • Station Stitchers ($3,000.00)
  • The Step Sisters ($4,000.00)
  • YMCA Loudoun County ($5,000.00)

For the competitive and mini-grant processes, a total of 62 nonprofit organizations submitted applications, requesting over $3.6 million for FY 2023 funding consideration.
