The Loudoun County Art Advisory Committee (AAC) has opened a new exhibit at Gallery One, the art gallery located in the lobby of the Loudoun County Government Center at 1 Harrison St. SE in Leesburg.

The exhibit features the work of 15 artists who identify as LGBTQ or are allies of the LGBTQ community. The exhibit—titled PRIDE—features 19 pieces of artwork created by students ages 18 to 52 in photography, ceramics, painting, drawing, sculpture and fiber mediums. The month of June is designated as Pride Month and celebrates the contributions of people who identify as lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer or questioning.

The exhibit includes artists such as Robin Schroeder of Hamilton, whose art relates personal experiences of relationships and struggle; Lindsay Tuck, whose piece in the show celebrates the LGBTQ community; Deborah Morbeto, resident artist at The Embark Center in Leesburg, whose work in the exhibit is about “freedom of choice with regards to identity;” and Alicia Lockwood, a member of the Davinci Studios with Arts for All, who has autism and whose piece in the exhibit is an Autism Awareness and LGBTQ Ally flag.

The exhibition will be on display in Gallery One through June 30, 2022, and was curated with help from Equality Loudoun, a nonprofit organization supporting LGBTQ equality.

The AAC was created by the Board of Supervisors in 1978 to collect and display works of art that reflect the diverse Loudoun community. The AAC manages a large and growing permanent and loaned art collection as well as produces art exhibits throughout the year in Gallery One. More information about the ACC is available online or by sending an email to the committee’s liaison, Elizabeth Bracey.
