[ARCHIVED] Free Microchips, Rabies Vaccines for Loudoun Pets at Summer Wellness Clinic; Registration Required

Loudoun County Animal Services and Blue Ridge Veterinary Associates are partnering for a Summer Pet Wellness Clinic on Saturday, June 8, 2013, at Blue Ridge Vet’s office, 120 E. Cornwell Lane in Purcellville. Registration is required and the clinic is open to Loudoun County residents only.

The clinic is part of ongoing efforts by both Animal Services and Blue Ridge Vet to help reunite lost pets with their owners, and also to ensure that pets remain healthy through regular vaccinations and routine diagnostic testing.

The clinic will offer free microchipping for dogs and cats. A microchip provides a safe, permanent way of identifying a pet found by Animal Services or a veterinary office. Implanted with a simple shot, the number on the chip can be read by a scanner and traced back to the owner so that they can be reunited with their pet. Lost animals are reunited with their owners every day thanks to microchips

Free rabies vaccines for dogs and cats will also be available at the clinic. Rabies vaccines are required by law for dogs and cats age 4 months or older. Loudoun County dog licenses will also be available for sale with proof of current rabies vaccine.

Blue Ridge Veterinary Associates will also offer discounted vaccines available for dogs and cats, as well as routine diagnostic testing. Prices and descriptions will be available online at www.loudoun.gov/animals.

Pre-registration is required, and can be done online at www.loudoun.gov/animals beginning May 8, 2013. Appointments will be assigned from 9:00 a.m. to 12 noon and from 12 noon to 2:00 p.m. for dogs and 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. for cats.
