Loudoun County Animal Services (LCAS) is celebrating National Literacy Month with “LCAS Cats Have Character” September 3-30, 2013.

With support from the Loudoun County Public Library, LCAS will be hosting story time in the Cat Adoption area of the Animal Shelter on Wednesday, September 18, and Wednesday, September 25, 2013 from 6:30 p.m.to 7:30 p.m. Registration is required and space is limited. To register for story time, contact LCAS at animals@loudoun.gov no later than September 15, 2013.

Throughout the month of September, LCAS will also be naming shelter cats after story book characters. To suggest names, please visit LCAS on Facebook at www.facebook.com/loudounanimals .

Visit www.loudoun.gov/animals to see all of the “character-filled” cats LCAS has available for adoption.

With National Literacy Month and the return of Loudoun children to school, it’s a great time to promote literacy and spend a little time with a feline friend. Cats make great reading companions. They enjoy quiet hours spent lounging on the couch, catching up on the latest best seller.

The Loudoun County Department of Animal Services is located at 39820 Charles Town Pike, Waterford, VA 20197. For more information call 703-777-0406 or visit www.loudoun.gov/animals .
