Indecent Liberties by a Custodian Sends Leesburg Man to Prison for Four Years

LEESBURG, Virginia – September 9, 2014. Mario Mendoza, 38, appeared before Judge Benjamin N. A. Kendrick in Loudoun County Circuit Court for sentencing on one count of indecent liberties with a child by custodian. Kendrick imposed a total active sentence of four years in the Virginia Department of Corrections.

Mendoza was charged after it was revealed that he had been repeatedly sexually abusing a minor child family member over a course of several years. This information was disclosed by the victim to another family member, who contacted the Leesburg Police Department.

Mendoza pleaded guilty to the offense on May 30, 2014.

Kendrick imposed an additional six years of suspended time. Upon his release, Mendoza will be placed on five years of supervised probation, and he must successfully complete a sex offender treatment program.

Pursuant to Virginia’s Sex Offender and Crimes Against Minors Registry Act, Mendoza will also be required to register as a sex offender. Information about the Virginia’s Sex Offender and Crimes Against Minors Registry and those on it can be found on the Virginia State Police website: http://sex-offender.vsp.virginia.gov.

Mendoza, a native of Guatemala, came to the United States legally, but continued to stay in the country after the expiration of his visa. Mendoza’s legal status will be addressed upon his release from incarceration, and it is anticipated that a Federal detainer will be placed to ensure his removal from the country.
