STERLING MAN SENTENCED AFTER PLEADING GUILTY TO POSSESSION OF CHILD PORNOGRAPHY
JUDGE IMPOSES TWO YEARS AND TEN MONTHS
LEESBURG, Virginia – June 8, 2015. Conor Layton Riley Flores, 20, appeared before Judge Stephen E. Sincavage in Loudoun County Circuit Court for sentencing on one count of possession of child pornography and six counts of possession of child pornography, second or subsequent offense. Sincavage imposed a total active sentence of two years and ten months in the Virginia Department of Corrections, noting that the number and nature of the images Flores had amassed over the past several years was particularly troubling.
In August 2014, the Northern Virginia Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force became aware of an individual uploading child pornography to a Microsoft Skydrive account. Law enforcement was able to identify the individual as Flores. Virginia State Police executed a search warrant on Flores’ residence, at which time multiple computing devices were recovered from the home. Flores admitted to owning and operating one of the computers seized from the home, and advised that there were approximately 1,000 pornographic images and videos on the machine. Forensic analysis on the items seized revealed that Flores was in possession of 4,208 images and 319 videos of child pornography.
Flores pleaded guilty to the charges on February 9, 2015.
Assistant Commonwealth’s Attorney Donald P. Goodman III, implored the Court to impose a sentence commensurate with the offenses. “Society has determined this is a serious crime. The defendant knew it was illegal and risky, and yet he continued,” said Goodman. “This was not simply a matter of possession, but this was discovered because the defendant was uploading thousands of images he had collected and carefully cataloged,” continued Goodman.
Flores received an additional 11 years and two months of suspended time. Upon his release, he will be placed on 15 years of supervised probation and he is prohibited from any unsupervised contact with minors, must remain more than 100 feet from any school, child day care, or playground and successfully complete a sex offender treatment program.
“These crimes create victims and there is no legitimate purpose to have this material in your possession,” said Judge Sincavage. “You uploading this material further shows that you are part of the stream of commerce of this horrible, horrible crime,” continued Sincavage.
Pursuant to Virginia’s Sex Offender and Crimes Against Minors Registry Act, Flores will also be required to register as a sex offender.
