Nonprofit organizations seeking exemption from local real estate or personal property taxes in Loudoun County may file an application with the Office of the Commissioner of the Revenue by the April 1, 2016, deadline.

Most charitable nonprofit organizations are not automatically exempt from local property taxes in the Commonwealth, even those that may be exempt from federal income taxes. The filing of an application with the Commissioner of the Revenue is the necessary first step to obtaining a local real estate or personal property tax exemption. Completed applications should be returned to the Commissioner of the Revenue with a postmark by April 1, 2016, for consideration this year. Any exemption, if granted, would be effective January 1, 2017. Applications are available online at www.loudoun.gov/cor .

Not sure if your organization is already exempt or an application is needed? Please contact the Tax Exemptions and Deferrals Division of the Office of the Commissioner of the Revenue at [email protected] or 703-737-8557 with any questions.
