LEESBURG MAN CONVICTED FOR STEALING CHECKS FROM EMPLOYER
DEFENDANT TO PAY OVER $15,000 IN RESTITUTION
LEESBURG, Virginia – March 14, 2016. Kenneth Morris Sutton, 49, appeared before Judge Jeanette A. Irby, in Loudoun County Circuit Court for sentencing on two counts of forgery, two counts of uttering, two counts of obtaining money by false pretense, and two counts of misdemeanor larceny of a check. Irby sentenced Sutton to an active sentence of three years in the Virginia Department of Corrections for the felony charges and twelve months on each of the misdemeanors.
Between June 20, 2014 and September 23, 2014, Sutton stole approximately 20 checks from his employer European Service Center in Leesburg. Sutton then forged the owner’s signature on the checks and cashed them at a local bank. The total loss to the company was in excess of $15,000.
Irby imposed an additional nine years suspended time on each charge, conditioned upon Sutton’s good behavior and his successful completion of five years supervised probation upon his release from prison. Sutton was further ordered to pay $15,409.75 in restitution to the victim.
Sutton has a criminal history dating back to 2006. This history includes four prior embezzlement convictions, two prior convictions for credit card theft, two prior convictions for credit card fraud, and a misdemeanor bad check conviction.
