The Loudoun County Government joins the nation in kicking off National Preparedness Month. Each September, public safety and emergency management professionals encourage everyone to review individual and family preparedness plans or to make a plan if you don’t already have one in place. The 2016 National Preparedness Month theme is “Don’t Wait. Communicate. Make Your Emergency Plan Today.”

During September - and throughout the year - county officials encourage the people of Loudoun to take action to ensure they are ready for all types of emergencies.

Like any community, Loudoun County can experience many types of hazards, such as tornadoes, flooding, blizzards, high winds, power outages and even terrorist events. There are four simple steps that each family can take to better prepare for all types of emergencies:

  • Be Informed
  • Make a Plan
  • Build a Kit
  • Get Involved

All of the information that a family may need to get ready is posted online at www.loudoun.gov/ready .

Throughout the month of September, Loudoun County’s Ready Loudoun campaign will provide preparedness tips to the community. Follow the county’s official Facebook and Twitter pages for help getting ready. The month’s activities will conclude on September 30 with America’s ”PrepareAthon”, which aims to increase community preparedness and resilience. The county encourages the community to engage online using the hashtags #ReadyLoudoun, #NatlPrep and #PrepareAthon.
