MARYLAND MAN FOUND GUILTY OF COCAINE POSSESSION

JURY FIXES SENTENCE AT FIVE YEARS

LEESBURG, Virginia – November 20, 2017. A single-day jury trial ends with twelve jurors finding Devon L’Moure Wilkerson, 29, guilty of possession of cocaine.

On the evening of February 1, 2017, Loudoun County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to Ashburn, Virginia for a report of a suspicious vehicle. As he approached the vehicle, Deputy D. Ater illuminated the interior of the vehicle with his flashlight. Wilkerson, who was sitting in the front passenger seat, quickly began sweeping something off his lap towards the vehicle’s door. When Deputy Ater asked if there were any illegal substances in the vehicle, Wilkerson replied that he had cocaine. Wilkerson handed over two baggies of cocaine and advised there was additional cocaine on the floor of the vehicle. Wilkerson was arrested and the seized substances were submitted to the Virginia Department of Forensic Science for analysis, where they were determined to be cocaine.

Following the guilty verdict, Senior Assistant Commonwealth’s Attorney Ryan W. Perry introduced evidence of the Wilkerson’s prior criminal record showing convictions for possession of schedule I/II controlled substance, assault and battery, driving while intoxicated, eluding police, and attempting to injury a police animal. The jury fixed Wilkerson’s punishment at five years in prison.

The Commonwealth’s motion to revoke Wilkerson’s bond upon his finding of guilt was granted. Wilkerson will be held without bond in the Loudoun County Adult Detention Center pending a final sentencing on February 26, 2018 before Judge Jeanette A. Irby who presided over the trial.
