LEESBURG MAN SENTENCED TO TWENTY YEARS IN PRISON FOR BURGLARY & AGGRAVATED MALICIOUS WOUNDING

LEESBURG, Virginia – November 29, 2017.  Judge J. Howe Brown Jr. sentenced Devon Lee Clark, 18, to twenty years in the Virginia Department of Corrections in connection with the burglary of a Leesburg home in March, 2017.  Clark entered pleas of guilty to burglary and aggravated malicious wounding  in Loudoun County Circuit Court on September 22, 2017.

In the early morning hours of March 25, 2017, Clark entered the victim’s home through an unlocked rear door with the intent to steal some valuables.  Upon entering an upstairs bedroom in the residence, the homeowner exited from a different bedroom, startling Clark.  Clark, armed with a knife, began swinging the knife at the homeowner.  The victim was struck in his side, causing significant and permanent physical injury.  The homeowner yelled at Clark to get out of the house, at which point Clark fled via the same door he had used for entry, returned to his home, and wiped down and returned the knife to where his father stored it in their home.

Leesburg Police Department Detectives received information which lead them to identifying Clark as a possible suspect.  Detectives interviewed Clark, and he confessed to breaking into the victim’s residence and stabbing the victim.

"There are few things more terrifying than finding a stranger inside your home," said Commonwealth's Attorney Jim Plowman.  "Judges and Juries in Loudoun County have recognized this with significant prison sentences for these types of invasions.  This case was further aggravated by the injuries to the resident."

Additionally, Clark received twenty years of suspended time followed by an indefinite period of supervised probation.  Brown ordered Clark to pay $23,000 in restitution towards the victim’s medical expenses and other assorted costs related to the incident.

Clark’s prior criminal record includes multiple contacts with the juvenile court system.
