[ARCHIVED] Loudoun County Parks and Recreation Awarded by Industry Society

Loudoun ImprovFest performers on stage

The Loudoun County Department of Parks, Recreation and Community Services (PRCS) was recognized by the Virginia Recreation and Park Society (VRPS) at its 63rd annual conference Nov. 3-6, 2018 in Glen Allen. The department received awards in the categories of “Best New Special Event” and “Most Innovative Marketing Piece,” among jurisdictions with populations over 100,000.

The conference provides opportunities for recreation and park professionals across Virginia to learn and discuss areas of common interest. Over 100 applications were submitted for 14 categories of awards. The winning submissions, judged by a jury of peers, honored individuals, departments and organizations for demonstrating excellence during the previous year.

The department’s “LoCo ImprovFEST,” Virginia’s only teen improv comedy festival featuring high school performers, won the Best New Special Event award. Developed in 2017, the festival consists of improvisational theatre masterclasses/workshops taught by nationally acclaimed teaching artists and a public showcase featuring individual school acts and a mixed showcase of performers on a regional stage.

The invitation to the “Botanicals & Bouquets” Art Exhibit opening reception at the Franklin Park Performing and Visual Arts Center was recognized as the Most Innovative Marketing Piece. The unique fold-out piece served as an invitation to the reception, as well as an invitation to recipients to create their own piece of art in the form of an origami flower. The opening reception featured floral displays that brought the artwork to life and helped raise funds for a new hanging system in the center’s gallery. The invitation needed to communicate the details of the new art exhibit and build excitement for the event.
