DRUG DEALER CONVICTED BY LOUDOUN JURY

JURY FIXES SENTENCE AT TWELVE YEARS

LEESBURG, Virginia – June 5, 2018.  After deliberating for a little more than an hour, a jury of twelve found twenty-nine year old Christopher Bryant guilty of possession with intent to distribute marijuana.

On March 15, 2017, Loudoun County Sheriff’s Deputies approached a vehicle with three occupants inside.  Deputies observed what appeared to be a fight going on inside the vehicle.  Bryant was the front seat passenger.  Inside Bryant’s pocket was a digital scale, and at his feet inside a backpack was between ten and eleven ounces of marijuana divided into four plastic bags.  Three of the bags were vacuum sealed.  Bryant’s backpack also contained 64 1x1 inch plastic bags and 44 sandwich sized bags.  A forensic examination of Bryant’s cell phone revealed at least four separate text message exchanges discussing the sale of marijuana on March 15th.

Assistant Commonwealth’s Attorney Eric Shamis introduced text message transcripts, cell phone photos, ownership information for the cell phone, marijuana, Bryant’s backpack, digital scale, and bags that are consistent with marijuana distribution into evidence during the one day trial.  A narcotics detective also testified as an expert in marijuana distribution during the trial.

After deliberating sentence for approximately forty-five minutes, the jury fixed Bryant’s sentence at twelve years.

Bryant’s prior criminal history includes convictions for two felony possession with intent to distribute marijuana in Loudoun County, conspiracy to distribute oxycodone in Federal Court, two DUI’s, and a domestic assault and battery.

Bryant will be back in Loudoun County Circuit Court on June 18, 2018 for scheduling of a final sentencing hearing.
