On Saturday, December 8, 2018, from 11:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Loudoun County Animal Services (LCAS) will host the 4th annual Home for the Holidays, a pet adoption event where all adoption fees are waived. The event at the Loudoun County Animal Shelter, 39820 Charles Town Pike, Waterford, will feature pets of all ages and types, from 8-week-old kittens to an 18-year old turtle, named Alfred. The event will be full of holiday cheer, complete with a visit from Santa Claus.

This year, LCAS is partnering with shelters in Wise and Highland counties, as both shelters are critically full with cats and dogs. By bringing animals from rural communities facing overpopulation, LCAS hopes to help unite Loudoun families with adoptable pets who may otherwise not had a chance at finding a home this holiday season.

“We are so fortunate to be in a community where adoptable pets are in high demand, that it just makes sense to give back to those who still struggle with pet overpopulation,” says Shelter Operations Manager Amy Martin. “Now it’s just up to the citizens of Loudoun to help us make some doggy wishes and kitty dreams come true and find them all a home of their own for the holidays.”

In lieu of adoption, those wishing to help homeless pets may bring donations of cat or dog collars, dog harnesses, bully sticks, dog training treats, or fleece blankets.

Due to the popularity of this event, LCAS is also offering a “Free Cat Guarantee.” In the event all cats over the age of 6 months are adopted, all visitors on December 8 will receive a voucher redeemable for a free cat adoption anytime in 2019.

Loudoun County Animal Services provides an open door to all types of domestic animals, sheltering more than 2,000 animals each year and never turning away a Loudoun pet in need. All pets available for adoption during Home for the Holidays will be spayed/neutered, microchipped, and given age-appropriate vaccinations.
