Sterling Man Sentenced to Prison for Sex Offenses with a Child Under Thirteen

Judge Imposes Six Life Sentenced Plus Thirty Years

LEESBURG, Virginia – March 15, 2019.  Guillermo Enrique Figueroa-Menendez, 64, appeared before Judge J. Howe Brown Jr. in Loudoun County Circuit Court for nine counts of sexual offenses against a minor.  These included six counts of forcible sodomy, two counts of indecent liberties, and one count of carnal knowledge.  The offenses had been ongoing for nearly 10 years before the crimes were discovered.  Figueroa-Menendez pleaded guilty to the charges and Brown imposed six mandatory life sentences plus thirty years in the Virginia Department of Corrections.

Two of the victim’s relatives testified at today’s hearing.  Both witnesses urged the Court to sentence Figueroa-Menendez to a sentence that would keep him in prison for the remainder of his life.  “I want to be able to assure my son that he never has to worry about this man again,” said the victim’s mother.  A second relative described Figueroa-Menendez as a “predator, abuser, pedophile, and sick monster living in our midst.”  Figueroa-Menendez developed an “evil scheme, a mask to fulfill his real desires and intentions to abuse a child at will.”  The witness went on to address Figueroa-Menendez directly, “You broke our family and took the innocence of a child.”  “You no longer exist,” he testified.

Before imposing a sentence, Judge Brown noted that this was one of the worst cases of abuse he’s ever heard.  When shown a photograph of the minor child, Judge Brown remarked that his shining eyes and bright smile gave him “hope.”

“There are few crimes that involve such profound betrayal and lasting damage than those where a child is sexually abused,” said Chief Deputy Commonwealths Attorney Nicole Wittmann.  “The fact that this child is surrounded by a loving family and a community of supporters willing will stand with him as he deals with the impact of this crime, gives us all much hope.”

Pursuant to Virginia’s Sex Offender and Crimes Against Minors Registry Act, Figueroa-Menendez will also be required to register as a sex offender.  Information about the Virginia’s Sex Offender and Crimes Against Minors Registry and those on it can be found on the Virginia State Police website: http://sex-offender.vsp.virginia.gov.
