[ARCHIVED] Loudoun County Law Enforcement Partner with DEA for Nationwide Prescription Take-Back Day

Untitled design (3)

Loudoun County, VA – The Loudoun County Sheriff’s Office, Town of Leesburg Police Department, the Town of Middleburg Police Department, and the Town of Purcellville Police Department have once again partnered with the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) in the “Take-Back” initiative that seeks to prevent increased pill abuse and theft. The service is free and anonymous, no questions asked.

Loudoun County residents can discard potentially dangerous expired, unused and unwanted prescription drugs for destruction on Saturday, April 27, 2019, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., at seven sites in the county:

Ashburn Station

20272 Savin Hill Drive, Ashburn, VA

Dulles South Public Safety Center

25216 Loudoun County Parkway, South Riding, VA

Eastern Loudoun Sheriff’s Station

46620 East Frederick Drive, Sterling, VA

Western Loudoun Station

47 W. Loudoun Street, Round Hill, VA

Town of Leesburg Police Department

65 Plaza Street, NE, Leesburg, VA

Town of Middleburg Police Department

10 W. Marshall Street, Middleburg, VA (Middleburg Town Hall)

Town of Purcellville Police Department

125 Hirst Road, Suite 7-A Purcellville, VA

Since the inception of the DEA take-back program in 2010, over 10,000 pounds of unwanted and unused prescription medications have been collected in Loudoun County.

Sheriff Mike Chapman, a former Special Agent with the US Drug Enforcement Administration, says the program addresses a critical public safety and health issue. “We want to make sure any unused and unwanted medications are taken off of our streets, as they often fall into the wrong hands and are misused or abused.”

In addition to the Take-Back event, drug collection units are available Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. at four of our stations. The drug collection units are located at the:

Dulles South Public Safety Center

25216 Loudoun County Parkway, Chantilly, VA

571-258-3200

Eastern Loudoun Station

46620 East Frederick Drive, Sterling, VA

571-258-3356

Ashburn Station

20272 Savin Hill Drive, Ashburn, VA

571-258-3000

Western Loudoun Sheriff Station

47 W. Loudoun Street, Round Hill, VA

571-258-3750

Also, the Leesburg Police Department has a Drug Collection Unit available 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

LCSO asks residents to please share these locations and dates to help promote safe disposal of unwanted and unused medication. All too often prescriptions are flushed down the toilet or thrown away – both potential safety and health hazards.
