[ARCHIVED] County Provides Information about Resources for Residents Affected by Leesburg Walmart Relocation

Map of resources for residents impacted by store closing

The Loudoun County government is reaching out to members of the community who will be impacted by the closing of the Walmart store on Edwards Ferry Road in Leesburg, which is expected to occur on May 21, 2019. A new Walmart store is opening May 22, 2019, on Compass Creek Parkway, about four miles from the Edwards Ferry Road location.

The current Walmart store is located in the same shopping center as the county’s Shenandoah Building, which is home to some of the county’s human services agencies. Many of the agencies’ clients rely on the store for food, pharmacy services, clothing and other necessities. Additionally, many residents in the immediate vicinity rely on the proximity of the Walmart because their transportation options are limited to walking and public transportation.

The county is providing resources, available in English and Spanish, to raise awareness about the change and to help residents identify their options for shopping and transportation.

The county is also reminding residents not to cross Route 15 by foot and to use the Leesburg Safe-T-Ride, a free shuttle providing continuous service between locations on the east and west sides of Route 15. The Safe-T-Ride operates seven days a week: Monday through Friday, 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m.; and Saturday and Sunday, 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.
