Loudoun Welcomes New Assistant Fire Chief

The Loudoun County Combined Fire and Rescue System is pleased to welcome John J. Caussin Jr. as the Assistant Chief of Support Services and Volunteer Administration. 

Assistant Chief Caussin brings thirty-four years of valuable experience and knowledge to the Loudoun County Combined Fire and Rescue System. Most recently, Chief Caussin served as the Chief of Training and Operations for the Virginia Department of Fire Programs (VDFP) where he oversaw and coordinated training for Fire Departments across the Commonwealth of Virginia. Prior to his position at VDFP, Caussin served as Acting Fire Chief and Chief Fire Marshal for the Fairfax County Fire and Rescue Department from April 2018 until his retirement in September 2018. From 2006 until 2018 Chief Caussin served as the Assistant Fire Chief of the Operations, Business Services, and Personnel Services Bureaus for the Fairfax County Fire and Rescue Department. His responsibilities included oversight of the Strategic Planning Office, Communications, Information Technology, Logistics, Special Operations (Hazardous Materials, marine operations, technical rescue and urban search and rescue response, including FEMA VATF-1 and USAID USA-1), Training Division, Safety and Human Resources Office, Professional Standards Office, the Equal Employment Opportunity and Women’s Program Office, and the Volunteer Liaison Office. Prior to his appointment as Assistant Fire Chief in Fairfax, Chief Caussin progressed through the ranks serving in field operations and staff positions in the department including Battalion Chief and Deputy Chief. 

“As we welcome Chief Caussin to Loudoun, I am confident that his vast experience and resolve will ensure that the emergency services provided to our community continue to demonstrate our core values of Teamwork, Integrity, Professionalism, and Service,” said System Chief Keith H. Johnson. 

Chief Caussin is a graduate of James Madison University and Northern Virginia Community College where he earned a BS in Communications and an AAS in Fire Administration. Chief Caussin completed the George Washington University Paramedic program in 1995 and maintains his certification as an Emergency Medical Technician – Paramedic. Chief Caussin is also a graduate of the National Fire Academy Executive Fire Officer Program and the Senior Executive Institute at the Weldon Cooper Center for Public Service at the University of Virginia. 

Chief Caussin and his wife Pam are lifelong residents of Northern Virginia and have three children and three grandchildren.
