[ARCHIVED] Daughters of the American Revolution Grant Funding

The Clerk’s Office is pleased to announce the award of additional grant funding from the Ketoctin Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) in the amount of $7,085. This grant funding along with other grant funding previously awarded by DAR brings the total grant funding to $16,455. “We are very grateful to DAR for their partnership resulting in these very generous grants that allow us to preserve valuable historic records from the Revolutionary War-era in Loudoun County,” stated Gary Clemens, Clerk of the Circuit Court during a recent press conference. Eric Larson, the manager of the Clerk’s Historic Records Division, and his team will use the grant funding to pursue preservation and conservation of several valuable books, including the 1781 Rough Minute Book, Court Order Book G and Court Order Book A, all of which were compiled during colonial times and during the Revolutionary War.

“These grant funds will allow my historic records team of Sarah Markel and Alyssa Fisher to take the necessary steps to ensure these records are available for public inspection and research for many years to come,” explained Larson when illustrating how the preservation process will restore and protect the pages of these books. “We are thankful for DAR’s support of our efforts.”

In addition to recognizing DAR for their generous financial support of the Clerk’s preservation process, the Virginia House of Delegates presented a resolution honoring the Clerk’s Office for the aggressive efforts of the Historic Records Division to create education programs by conducting public exhibitions displaying historic court records.

“We are grateful to the House of Delegates for recognizing our efforts. Our goal is to maintain these valuable historic records and provide the community with the opportunity to come learn about Loudoun’s history and the people who have resided in Loudoun since 1757,” commented Clemens. “These records belong to the people of Loudoun County and my job as the Clerk is to ensure the records are protected, preserved and displayed to enhance the people’s access to their records.”

The Historic Records Division is open Monday – Friday, except for legal holidays, from 8:00 AM to 4:00. Residents, students and visitors to Loudoun County are encouraged to come experience our local museum of historic court records.
