Nicole Wittmann Sworn in as the Commonwealth’s Attorney for Loudoun County
Nicole Wittmann is the first woman to serve as Commonwealth’s Attorney for Loudoun County
LEESBURG, Virginia – October 31, 2019. Nicole Wittmann was sworn in as the Commonwealth’s Attorney for Loudoun County by the Hon. Jeanette Irby in the Loudoun County Courthouse. In a packed and jubilant courtroom, Ms. Wittmann took the oath of office to “faithfully and impartially discharge all the duties” of the Commonwealth’s Attorney. After being sworn in as Commonwealth’s Attorney, Ms. Wittmann said “I am so humbled to continue my service for the people of Loudoun County and to take leadership of the Commonwealth’s Attorney’s Office.” Ms. Wittmann noted that as the mother of two sons she understands how important the role of the Commonwealth’s Attorney was in helping victims -- especially child victims.
Ms. Wittmann’s appointment as Commonwealth’s Attorney ends on January 1, 2020. Ms. Wittmann is running to be re-elected as Commonwealth’s Attorney for Loudoun County for the 2020-2024 term in next Tuesday’s election on November 5, 2019. Ms. Wittmann told her audience, “I look forward to continuing my lifelong service to victims and keeping Loudoun the safe community it is today. As the first woman, and first daughter of immigrants to hold this position, I will bring a unique perspective to this position.”
Ms. Wittmann joined the Loudoun County Commonwealth’s Attorney’s Office in 2005 after having served in the Arlington County Commonwealth’s Attorney’s Office and the Sarasota State’s Attorney’s Office in Florida. She began in the Loudoun County Commonwealth’s Attorney’s Office as the head of the Victim –Witness Office, followed by Deputy Commonwealth’s Attorney leading the Child Abuse and Sex Crimes Unit, and finally becoming the Chief Deputy Commonwealth’s Attorney in 2012.
Ms. Wittmann noted that some of her proudest accomplishments as Chief Deputy were the establishment of the Mental Health and Drug Courts and attaining justice on behalf of abused women, especially those who had been murdered by their husbands or partners, including Michelle Castillo, Catherine Combs-Lafleur, and Stacie Lynn Harper. Among those in attendance, were Loudoun County Sheriff Michael Chapman, Arlington County Commonwealth’s Attorney Theo Stamos, Leesburg Mayor Kelly Burk, Algonkian District Supervisor Suzanne M. Volpe, Treasurer Roger Zurn, and Commissioner of Revenue Bob Wertz.
