Loudoun County, VA (November 8, 2019) – The Loudoun County Sheriff’s Office is honored to announce that Deputy First Class Brian Degear graduated from the 99th Session of The Virginia Forensic Science Academy today.

Crime Scene Investigator Degear is the latest member of the Loudoun County Sheriff’s Office to graduate from the Commonwealth of Virginia Forensic Science Academy.

Deputy First Class Degear joined the Loudoun County Sheriff’s Office in 2007 as a patrol deputy. He became a member of the agency’s Crime Scene Investigations Unit in 2016. He is the 12th member of the Loudoun County Sheriff’s Office to graduate from the academy.

The Virginia Forensic Science Academy is an intense 9-week school where students are evaluated by class performance, written tests, and application of recovery techniques. The course is taught by instructors from the Department of Forensic Science and provides crime scene investigators with advanced training to properly recognize, document, collect and preserve items of physical evidence found at crime scenes for laboratory examination.

The exclusive and nationally recognized school is open to all Virginia Law Enforcement Officers and often has a one to three year waiting list.

Current members of the Loudoun County Sheriff’s Office who have graduated from the academy include: Master Deputy Robert Bruns, Master Deputy Matthew Devaney, and Deputy First Class Ethan Martin.
