The 2020 census opens Thursday, March 12, 2020, and all Loudoun County residents have the opportunity to participate.

“The 2020 census is a once-a-decade opportunity for every Loudoun resident to shape our county’s future and give their community a voice,” said Board of Supervisors Chair Phyllis J. Randall, who serves as the chair of the Loudoun County Complete Count Committee. “More than $30 million in federal funding for Loudoun County depends on how many people are counted in the census to support school meals, special education, Medicaid, affordable housing vouchers, foster care and more. Our Complete Count Committee has partnered with over 120 government, nonprofit, faith-based, business and community partners to ensure that everyone is counted in this year’s census.”

Residents can complete the census online, by phone, or by paper form. Residents who do not respond by mid-May will receive a visit at their home by a U.S. Census Bureau employee.

  • Online: Residents will receive mail before March 20, 2020, with instructions and a code to respond online. Residents can also access the census at www.2020Census.gov
  • By phone: Residents will be able to provide their census responses over the phone.
  • By mail: Households will receive a paper form in the mail in April if a response has not been recorded.

Residents who live in group settings or lack permanent housing will be counted under a special group count process.

Census responses are confidential and by law cannot be shared with any government agency outside of the U.S. Census Bureau.

The census will be open from March 12 until July 31. It will be available in 13 languages: Arabic, Chinese, English, French, Haitian Creole, Japanese, Korean, Polish, Portuguese, Spanish, Russian, Tagalog and Vietnamese.

More information, including a timeline of the census process, links to sample census forms, informational videos, language guides and more, may be found at loudoun.gov/2020Census
