[ARCHIVED] PRCS Program Status & County Response to COVID-19

Document

Earlier today, the Board of Supervisors and County officials held a news conference to discuss the county’s ongoing response to the rapidly evolving coronavirus virus situation. A replay of the news conference can be watched on the Loudoun County Government’s Facebook page.

As of today, the changes to normal department operations outlined below generally meet or exceed the recommendations of the Virginia Health Department and Centers for Disease Control in order to protect our residents and employees. The effective date for PRCS operational changes is Monday, March, 16. The duration of these changes will be determined as conditions continue to be monitored.

Senior Centers

All activities and programs at Loudoun County senior centers will be canceled, except for the congregate meals program, the most critical need for our older adult community. The Senior Centers will only be open from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. to accommodate the meal program. The county will be using social distancing measures for high risk populations as well as standard infection prevention steps, such as disinfecting high-touch surfaces. The county will provide meal delivery for older adults who wish to obtain meals, but are not comfortable coming to the centers.

Adult Day Centers

No change to programs or services at this time. Adult Day Centers serve a vulnerable population. These centers have regular measures in place to assess visitors before they enter a facility. Visitors who exhibit symptoms of illness are not admitted.

Recreation Centers and Community Centers

Programs held at these facilities will be limited to only those that enable social distancing measures to be implemented. Social distancing recommendations also apply to fitness areas and pools, where contact activities should be avoided. Any programs specifically for older adults are canceled. Scheduled cleaning and disinfection at these facilities have been increased.

Preschool and Child Care

The county’s Preschool and daycare programs that are operated by the Department of Parks, Recreation and Community Services will be closed while Loudoun County Public Schools are closed.

County After School Activities (CASA) & Youth After School (YAS)

With the closure of Loudoun County Public Schools, all after-school programs, including CASA and YAS programs, are canceled while the Loudoun County Public Schools are closed.

In addition to the measures outlined above, PRCS is in the process of evaluating regular programs and activities for the feasibility of adhering to social distancing guidelines. Adjustments to program and activity schedules will be communicated beginning the week of March 16, along with details regarding program refunds.

Your patience is appreciated as the County continues to monitor the COVID-19 situation carefully and respond with measures that ensure the health and safety of our citizens and employees. Stay up to date regarding PRCS program and operational status at facebook.com/loudounprcs.
