[ARCHIVED] Franklin Park Performing and Visual Arts Center Receives Marketing Award

Planetarium at Franklin Park Arts Center

The annual awards of the Virginia Recreation and Park Society (VRPS) honor individuals, departments and organizations throughout the state that demonstrate excellence. The Franklin Park Performing and Visual Arts Center in Purcellville, Virginia, received an award for the Most Innovative Marketing Piece for its 2019 Planetarium Promotional Video at the 65th Annual VRPS Conference, held virtually this year.

The mission of the Virginia Recreation and Park Society is to unite all professionals, students, and interested lay persons engaged in the field of recreation, parks, and other leisure services in the Commonwealth of Virginia. The conference is a learning exchange and provides an opportunity for recreation and park professionals to discuss areas of common interest.

The video highlights the Arts Center’s Digitalis Delta 4 planetarium, purchased with the help of a donation from the Dan and Arlene MicGinnis Foundation. Viewers are taken on a journey inside the theater, onto the stage to witness the inflatable planetarium unfolding, inside the planetarium to experience simulated images and back onstage to see how the portable planetarium is put away. The Arts Center, operated by the Loudoun County Department of Parks, Recreation and Community Services, is located at 36441 Blueridge View Lane in Purcellville. Planetarium shows are temporarily suspended due to the pandemic. For information about current performances and exhibits, call 540-338-7973.
