Ten Stores Sell to Underage Buyers During Joint LCSO & VAABC Operation

Loudoun County, VA – A joint operation conducted by the Loudoun County Sheriff’s Office Community Resource Unit and special agents from the Virginia Department of Alcoholic Beverage Control saw 10 area stores sell alcohol to an underage buyer.

The underage alcohol sales operation was conducted March 21st and visited 40 stores with two underage volunteers in the Dulles South and University Station areas of Loudoun County.

The following stores in the Dulles South Area sold alcohol to an underage buyer: Jimbos - 43112 John Mosby Highway, Walgreens - 25421 Eastern Market Plaza, Crosen’s Store - 42382 John Mosby Hwy., Harris Teeter - 42015 Village Center Plaza, Walgreens - 42025 Village Center Plaza, 7-11 - 42040 Village Center Plaza and the Flagstaff Exxon - 22405 Flagstaff Plaza. In the University Station area three stores sold to underage buyers, the Sunoco - 42800 Creek View Plaza, the Harris Teeter - 20070 Ashbrook Commons Plaza and Giant 44110 - Ashburn Village Blvd.

The following locations did not sell alcohol to the underage buyer: Giant (Junction Plaza), Exxon (Junction Plaza, Harris Teeter (Creek View Plaza), Walgreens (Creek View Plaza), Sunoco (Ashburn Village Blvd.) 7-11 (Pipeline Plaza), Exxon (Farmwell Hunt Plaza), CVS (Farmwell Hunt Plaza), Global Foods (Parkhurst Plz.), Exxon (Parkhurst Plaza), In &out Mart (Shellhorn Rd), Ice Rink Shell (Ice Rink Plaza), Shell (Ruby Dr.), Harris Teeter (Windmeade Dr.), CVS (Ruby Dr.), Harris Teeter (Southern Walk Plaza), Exxon (Ryan Center Way), Giant (Yukon Dr.), Sunoco (Truro Parish Dr.), Main Street Truck Stop (John Mosby Hwy.), Chantilly Truck Stop ( John Mosby Hwy.), 7-11 (43251 John Mosby Hwy.), A Plus Mini Mart (Defender Dr.), Sheetz (Poland Rd.), Harris Teeter (Eastern Marketplace Plaza), Bloom (Peacock Market Plaza), Giant (Riding Plaza), CVS (Pine brook Road), BP (South Point Drive), Aldie Liberty (Route 50), Aldie Country Store (Route 50), Harris Teeter (Brambleton Town Center).

Loudoun County Sheriff Michael L. Chapman commended those stores that refused to sell alcohol to the underage buyers. “All too often the mix of alcohol and youth can have tragic consequences. We plan to hold more joint operations in the future to discourage the sale of alcohol to underage buyers, particularly with the upcoming prom and graduation season,” said Sheriff Chapman.

The clerks at each store are facing charges of selling alcoholic beverages to a person less than 21 years of age, a Class 1 Misdemeanor. The stores also face penalties from the Virginia Department of Alcoholic Beverage Control.
