[ARCHIVED] Thursday, February 18: Weather Impacts to County Facilities

The forecast of a winter storm warning for Thursday, February 18, 2021, has caused some changes in Loudoun County operations, including those related to COVID-19.  The National Weather Service has issued a winter storm warning that includes Loudoun County, in effect beginning at 3:00 a.m., February 18. The forecasted snow accumulations in Loudoun range from 4 to 8 inches with about 0.10” of ice accumulation from freezing rain.

Weather Impacts on County Operations – Thursday, February 18

  • COVID-19 Testing Event
    • The COVID-19 testing event scheduled for Thursday, February 18, 2021, at Cascades Library is canceled. Anyone considering attending that event is encouraged to consider attending either of the COVID-19 testing events scheduled for next week: February 23 and 25, 10:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m. at Dulles South Recreation & Community Center, 24950 Riding Center Drive, South Riding.
    • More information, including links to registration forms, is online at loudoun.gov/COVID19testing.
  • COVID-19 Call Center & Vaccination Clinic 
    • Due to the forecast, the county’s vaccination clinic will be closed Thursday, February 18. All individuals who had vaccination appointments Thursday will be contacted by email or phone and prompted to reschedule their appointments at the next available opportunity.
    • In addition, the Loudoun County Health Department’s COVID-19 call center will also be closed.
    • More information about the ongoing COVID-19 vaccination effort in Loudoun County is posted at loudoun.gov/COVID19vaccine.
  • Loudoun County Courts
    • Loudoun County courts will be closed Thursday, February 18. The affected courts are the Loudoun Circuit Court, General District Court and Juvenile and Domestic Relations District Court.
  • Other County Operations
    • The county is carefully monitoring the weather forecast. At this time, no other decisions regarding county operations that may be impacted by the forecasted inclement weather have been made. The public is encouraged to stay informed about weather-related impacts by signing up for email and text alerts at loudoun.gov/alerts or loudoun.gov/notifyme

Forecast and Status Updates

  • The county encourages residents to monitor the forecast closely and take the necessary precautions. Updated forecasts for Loudoun are posted by the National Weather Services (NWS) at weather.gov/lwx, as well as on the NWS Facebook and Twitter.
  • Loudoun County will continue to provide updates on any weather-related impacts to county operations at loudoun.gov and on the county’s official Facebook and Twitter sites.

Travel Safety

  • Track snow removal efforts and get real-time traffic information by visiting virginiadot.org. Follow VDOT on Facebook and Twitter. Call VDOT for more information at 1-800-FOR-ROAD.
  • If you have to travel, be sure to review driving safety and preparedness tips from the Loudoun County Sheriff’s Office before heading out on the road.
  • Loudoun County has an interactive online tool to help residents determine who is responsible for the maintenance of their roads. Learn more at loudoun.gov/roads.

Be Prepared

  • Loudoun County encourages residents to know how to contact your utility providers. Loudoun County emergency management officials suggest that you take time to charge cell phones and other electronics ahead of the inclement weather. If you need to report outages, make sure you have contact information for local utilities, which is posted at loudoun.gov/winter
