[ARCHIVED] Loudoun Farmer takes Third in Southeastern Hay Contest

McClintic and Family as the Southeastern Hay Contest 3rd Place Winner

Loudoun producer John McClintic submitted hay to the 2020 Southeastern Hay Contest, and his hay emerged at 3rd Place in the Mixed/Annual Grass or Other Hays category! One of 370 samples from farmers from thirteen states, John’s hay results: 20.9% Crude Protein (CP), 62.9% Total Digestible Nutrients (TDN), and 152 Relative Forage Quality (RFQ) was just a leaf-width away from beating the overall second-place winner for Alfalfa.  Team McClintic attended the award ceremony during the American Forage and Grassland Council Annual Meetings in Savannah, GA. Virginia hay producers entered eighteen samples; Thousand Hills and two other farms from the Commonwealth were winners.

Congrats, Thousand Hills Farm!

We hope to see more Loudoun County entries next year, and challenge current producers to consider competing. For more information email Extension Agent Jim Hilleary (james58@vt) for more information.
