[ARCHIVED] Free Microchips and Rabies Vaccines for Loudoun Pets at Winter Wellness Clinic January 26

The Loudoun County Department of Animal Services and Blue Ridge Veterinary Associates are partnering in a Winter Pet Wellness Clinic on Saturday, January 26, 2013, at the Blue Ridge Veterinary Associates office at 120 E Cornwell Lane in Purcellville. Registration is required and the clinic is open to Loudoun County residents only.

The clinic is part of ongoing efforts by both Animal Services and Blue Ridge Vet to help reunite lost pets with their owners, and also to ensure that pets remain healthy through regular vaccinations and routine diagnostic testing.

The clinic will offer free microchipping for dogs and cats. A microchip provides a safe, permanent way of identifying a pet found by Animal Control or a veterinary office. Lost animals are reunited with their owners every day thanks to microchips. Implanted with a simple shot, the number on the chip can be read by a scanner and traced back to the owner so that they can be reunited with their pet.

Free rabies vaccines for dogs and cats will also be available. Rabies vaccines are required by law for dogs and cats age four months or older. Loudoun County dog licenses will also be available for sale with proof of current rabies vaccine.

Blue Ridge Veterinary Associates will also have discounted vaccines available for dogs and cats, as well as routine diagnostic testing. Pre-registration is required, and can be done online at www.loudoun.gov/animals .

More details, including prices and information about the testing and vaccines , are also online. Appointments are available between 9:00 a.m. – 11:00 a.m. for dogs and 11:30 a.m. - 1:30 p.m. for cats.
