[ARCHIVED] Social Distancing & Capacity Restrictions End May 28; Unvaccinated People Should Still Wear Masks

Link to information about COVID-19

Beginning Friday, May 28, 2021, Loudoun County will implement Governor Ralph Northam’s Executive Order 79 (PDF), which lifts all remaining capacity limits for gatherings and social distancing requirements in previous executive orders that have been in place in county government facilities as part of the efforts to reduce the spread of COVID-19.

Earlier this month, Governor Northam lifted the state’s universal indoor mask mandate in line with Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) guidance. As a result, Loudoun County generally no longer requires face masks to be worn by employees and members of the public who are fully vaccinated against COVID-19 and working in or visiting county facilities.

There are exceptions. Face masks are still required in public transit settings, such as Loudoun County Transit buses; health care facilities, such as the county’s Dulles Town Center COVID-19 vaccination site; detention facilities and congregate care settings. Also, anyone participating in a jury trial at the Loudoun County Courthouse may be required to wear a face mask until further notice. Also, the public should follow any mask requirements by private entities, such as grocery stores and restaurants.

Anyone who is not vaccinated—including children ages 5 to 11—should wear a face covering in all public settings in accordance with Virginia Governor Ralph Northam’s Executive Order 79 (PDF) and take precautions in accordance with CDC guidance for unvaccinated people. Additionally, the Virginia Department of Health still recommends that people who are not fully vaccinated continue to practice physical distancing.

Anyone 12 and older who is not vaccinated is encouraged to make an appointment to receive a free COVID-19 vaccine. For more information and to schedule a vaccine with the Loudoun County Health Department, visit loudoun.gov/COVID19vaccine or call 703-737-8300.

As COVID-19 restrictions are lifted, Loudoun County government will continue to adjust service delivery and the operational status of county government departments, including those with public front counters. The latest operational information for the county government may be found on the Loudoun County government website at loudoun.gov/status.
