[ARCHIVED] County Hosts Independence Day Celebrations July 2, July 3 & July 4

The Loudoun County Department of Parks, Recreation and Community Services is offering residents and visitors several options for celebrating Independence Day this year. 

Sterling Community Center hosts the annual “Star Spangled Sterling” Friday, July 2, 2021, from 7 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. at the Sterling Middle School track field. The evening features food trucks, a DJ, children's activities, including an obstacle course, and a family-friendly movie followed by fireworks. Attendees are urged to park in the school’s lot and make their way to the track field. Sterling Middle School is located at 201 W. Holly Avenue in Sterling Park. The event is free. Franklin Park and the Franklin Park Performing and Visual Arts Center host “Red, White & Blue Bike Parade and Family Movie Night” Saturday, July 3, starting at 7:30 p.m. Parade participants can bring bikes and other wheels (e.g., scooters, wheelchairs, strollers, wagons) to a decorating workshop at 6:30 p.m. All materials will be provided. Workshop participants should register for activity 463761-01 at loudoun.gov/webtrac. 

The parade will start in the swimming pool parking lot at 7:30 p.m. Select prizes and snow cones will be handed out after the parade. Families can bring lawn chairs, blankets and a picnic to the back lawn of the Arts Center where a family-friendly (PG) movie will be projected on the outside wall. Movie tickets are $3 and can be purchased online, or call the Arts Center at 540-338-7973 for more information. Franklin Park is located at 17501 Franklin Park Drive in Purcellville.

On Sunday, July 4, Claude Moore Park hosts the annual “Old-time Fourth of July Celebration” from 10:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. featuring live music, crafts, nature exhibits, historic tours and carnival games. Food will be available for purchase. Attendees should use the Loudoun Park Lane entrance into the park. Tickets are $5 for ages five and older and can be purchased in advance at loudoun.gov/webtrac or purchased at the event by cash or check. The “Independence Day Celebration at Franklin” Sunday, July 4, offers activities from 11 a.m. until 10 p.m. The pool will be open from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. and feature a patriotic selfie photo booth and special snacks for purchase. Park activities include games and large inflatables, a scavenger hunt, glitter tattoos, food truck vendors and more, starting at 5 p.m. DJ Bifocals will spin patriotic tunes during the fireworks, which begin at approximately 9:15 p.m. and will also be livestreamed. Entry cannot be guaranteed after 8:30 p.m. Park admission is free, but normal pool fees will apply. Franklin Park is located at 17501 Franklin Park Drive in Purcellville.
