Loudoun County will hold a ribbon cutting ceremony to celebrate the completion of the final segment of Riverside Parkway Thursday, September 2, 2021, at 1:00 p.m. The Riverside Parkway segment has eliminated Lexington Drive and now extends Riverside Parkway from Riverside Commons Plaza to Loudoun County Parkway at George Washington Boulevard, completing a missing link in the county’s road network. This segment provides the final roadway connection between River Creek Parkway and Loudoun County Parkway. Previously, vehicles traveling between these roadways had to use Route 7. The roadway is currently scheduled to be open to traffic the week of September 5, 2021.
The event will take place on the new segment of Riverside Parkway, at the intersection of Loudoun County Parkway in the vicinity of 20065 Lakeview Center Plaza, Ashburn. To access the site from Route 7, take the Ashburn Village Boulevard exit north to Riverside Parkway. Turn right onto Riverside Parkway and drive approximately 1.5 miles to the marked-off ribbon cutting site at the intersection of Loudoun County Parkway. Currently there is no access to Riverside Parkway from Loudoun County Parkway.
The Riverside Parkway project constructed a four-lane, median-divided roadway between Riverside Commons Plaza to Loudoun County Parkway at George Washington Boulevard. The project also included the removal of Lexington Drive on both sides of Route 7, a new water main and replacement of the existing temporary traffic signal at Loudoun County Parkway and George Washington Boulevard with a permanent signal.
The completion of Riverside Parkway, in conjunction with the Battlefield Parkway Interchange project, improves traffic flow and allows Route 7 to operate as a freeway west of Countryside Boulevard in Loudoun County. The project also will improve connectivity among the Lexington 7, Potomac Farms, River Crest and University Center communities. It is expected this connectivity will divert local traffic from Route 7 to the completed Riverside Parkway corridor. More information about the project can be found at loudoun.gov/riversideparkway.
