[ARCHIVED] Judge Sentences Juvenile in Sexual Assault Case

The Loudoun Commonwealth’s Attorney’s Office announced that Judge Brooks of the Juvenile and Domestic Relations Court entered a finding of delinquency (guilty) in the sexual assault cases having occurred in Loudoun County last year. The juvenile was found guilty of sexual battery, abduction and two counts of sodomy.

The Honorable Judge Brooks received the testimony of the victims and their parents. Each acknowledged the harm and the hurt they experienced. Additionally, they all informed the judge that they hoped that the defendant would benefit from service within a residential facility. Judge Brooks, having earlier found the defendant guilty of all charges, sentenced him to an indeterminate commitment to the Department of Juvenile Justice. The commitment was suspended on the specific conditions that he successfully complete a sex offender treatment program, have no contact with the victims, register as a sex offender, and be placed on supervised probation until his 18th birthday

Loudoun County Commonwealth’s Attorney Buta Biberaj stated, “we are hopeful that the resolution of this case starts the healing for the victims and their families. It is always sad to see the devastation when victims are subjected to such acts of violence.”

“We are appreciative of the cooperation of the victims, their families, law enforcement partners (investigators and probation officers), community members and our prosecutors who assisted in the investigation, preparation and presentation of this case. We hope that the victims feel a sense of justice and most importantly, safety for them and our community. Our Victim Witness case managers remain available and committed to assist the victims with guidance and referrals for services as needed,” said Biberaj.

“We know that even with this conviction, there is no erasing of the trauma they have experienced and will continue to endure. This case is a tragedy on every level. So many young lives have been forever changed today. Today’s decision ensures we can keep our community safe. We appreciate the time, energy, and devotion to due process shown by the judge, the victims, and the community.”
