Loudoun County residents who have questions about the “safe haven” facility at The National Conference Center (NCC) in Lansdowne are invited to view a Facebook Live question-and-answer session Thursday, March 10, 2022, 3:00 to 4:00 p.m. Board of Supervisors Chair Phyllis J. Randall and Ashburn District Supervisor Michael R. Turner will host the session.

How to Participate

The question-and-answer session will be streamed live on the Loudoun County Government page on Facebook beginning at 3:00 p.m., Thursday, March 10. Questions should be submitted in advance through an online form at loudoun.gov/safehaven. The deadline to submit questions is 12:00 p.m., March 10. Anyone will be able to view the question-and-answer session at the time of the event; a Facebook account is not required. Video of the conversation will be posted on the county’s Facebook page following the event.

Operation Safe Haven

The federal government has entered into a contractual agreement with the NCC in Lansdowne to use the center as a “safe haven” to temporarily house Afghan evacuees as part of Operation Allies Welcome. The site will function as a brief stop for thousands of Afghan evacuees until they are resettled into new homes located throughout the United States. The operation is scheduled to begin during the week of March 7 and end no later than September 2022.
