VCE Loudoun Master Gardeners Celebrate 30 Years of Demonstration Garden, Receive Proclamation

Demo Garden 30th

On Wednesday, June 15, 2022, the Virginia Cooperative Extension Loudoun (VCE Loudoun) Master Gardeners celebrated the 30th anniversary of their Demonstration Garden at Ida Lee Park. Since 1992, VCE Loudoun Master Gardeners have educated the public about gardening techniques through their Demonstration Garden.

With a proclamation from the Mayor and Town Council of Leesburg, Mayor Kelly Burk recognized the VCE Loudoun Master Gardeners’ dedication and continued efforts, applauding the group on their Demonstration Garden’s 30th anniversary.

Master Gardeners volunteer Tuesday and Thursday mornings in the demonstration garden and answer horticultural questions from the public. Community members are welcome to visit the garden at any time to learn more about gardening and to check out the raised vegetable beds, fruit trees, bulbs and ornamentals.

VCE Loudoun Master Gardeners experiment with agricultural methods and have demonstrated that organic gardening is achievable in Loudoun County. With the fruits (and vegetables) of their labor, the Master Gardeners donate fresh produce to Loudoun Hunger Relief, averaging between 1,000-2,000 pounds annually.

The impact of the VCE Loudoun Master Gardeners on the community has been recognized in many ways, such as through awards for their Demonstration Garden work, including:

  • Signatures of Loudoun Design Excellence Award for Public Landscapes - Loudoun’s Design Cabinet, 2012
  • John W. Tolbert Award - Town of Leesburg, 2007
  • Community Improvement Award - The Leesburg Environmental Advisory Council, 1996
