[ARCHIVED] Judge Certifies Felonies in the Lollobrigido Preliminary Hearing

On June 29, 2022, Judge Avelina S. Jacob of the Loudoun County Juvenile and Domestic Relations District Court certified numerous felonies alleged to have been committed by Peter Lollobrigido in 2021.

Based on the investigation and reports by the Loudoun County Sheriff’s Office, Regina Lollobrigido reported that on July 21, 2021, her estranged husband, Peter Lollobrigido, assaulted her. Mr. Lollobrigido was charged with two counts of abduction, two counts of domestic assault and battery, and strangulation. It was further alleged that on September 19, 2021, Mr. Lollobrigido returned to Regina Lollobrigido’s residence, in violation of a protective order and conditions of his bond, and viciously attacked her. Mr. Lollobrigido was arrested and charged with aggravated malicious wounding, attempted murder, and a misdemeanor violation of a protective order. After Regina Lollobrigido succumbed to her injuries and died, the charge was amended from attempted murder to murder.

Two separate preliminary hearings were held on June 29, 2022, addressing the different offense dates. Senior Assistant Christina Brady and Chief Deputy Shaniqua Clark Nelson presented the evidence on behalf of the Commonwealth’s Attorney. Prior to the preliminary hearing, the misdemeanor offenses were nolle prossed (not prosecuted) with the intent to direct indict (re-charge) in circuit court.

For the July 2021 offenses, Judge Jacob certified two felony counts of abduction and dismissed the strangulation charge (due to insufficient evidence to establish that the assault impeded breathing or circulation). Mr. Lollobrigido was represented by his counsel, John Carroll.

For the September 19, 2021 offenses, Judge Jacob certified the murder and aggravated malicious wounding charges. Mr. Lollobrigido was represented by his counsel, Senior Assistant Adam Pouilliard and Public Defender Lorie O’Donnell of the Public Defenders’ Office.

The cases will be presented to a Grand Jury on July 11, 2022. Thereafter, the Loudoun County Circuit Court will set the matters for further scheduling on July 12, 2022.

Loudoun County Commonwealth’s Attorney Buta Biberaj stated, “We are grateful to our community, the victims and their families, the witnesses, law enforcement and our team members for their assistance in prosecuting crimes of violence. As a community, we must work together to ensure that there is justice. Regina Lollobrigido’s death was devastating to all of us. Her loss will forever be a part of her family and our community. The Office of the Commonwealth’s Attorney will dedicate all available resources to the prosecution of these crimes.”
