A shortage of lifeguards is impacting operations at the Claude Moore Recreation and Community Center pools and may impact hours at the other aquatic facilities operated by the Loudoun County Department of Parks, Recreation and Community Services. The lifeguard shortage is further exacerbated by the reduced availability of lifeguards who have left employment or reduced their hours to return to school.
Claude Moore Recreation and Community Center Pools
For the immediate future, pool hours at the Claude Moore Recreation and Community Center will be adjusted at least through Labor Day to accommodate available staffing levels and to ensure the pool is open during peak use times as much as possible. The pools will continue to open at their normal times; 5:00 a.m. for the competition pool and 9:00 a.m. for the leisure pool; however, the pools will be closed for segments of the day when proper staffing levels cannot be achieved or when use is typically lower. The schedule for this week is as follows:
Claude Moore Competition Pool:
Claude Moore Leisure Pool:
Patrons are encouraged to check the Loudoun County website at loudoun.gov/poolhours for any adjustments to the pool schedules.
Other Loudoun County Pools
Currently, staffing is adequate at Loudoun County’s other pools at the Dulles South Recreation and Community Center, Franklin Park, Lovettsville Community Center and the Round Hill Indoor Aquatic Center. However, residents should be aware that staffing issues could impact these facilities unexpectedly and they are encouraged to check loudoun.gov/poolhours for any schedule adjustments.
Loudoun County is working to identify immediate solutions to help residents better predict current pool hours, as well as to develop more sustainable staffing plans that ensure consistent operations at the county’s aquatic facilities in the future.
