While the heat sizzles in August and summertime vegetables are ripening fast, early August is also the perfect time to plan for yet another season. We will focus on planning for a late summer and fall garden, when temperatures begin to moderate and cool evenings lead to better tasting cool season vegetables like turnips, broccoli, and kale. We will discuss soil preparation, selecting fall plants, and other practical tips for planting and managing these vegetables.

Denise Palmer is a former Loudoun County Extension Master Gardener who shared her knowledge and passion for the backyard vegetable for almost 15 years with the residents of Loudoun County through countless lectures and activities. Since moving to the Sandhills of NC, and becoming an Extension Master Gardener there, she still has not lost her enthusiasm to educate residents on ways to eat fresh by growing your own throughout the 3 seasons our weather allows.
