LEESBURG, Virginia – June 4, 2013. A forty-seven year old Manassas man appeared before the Loudoun County Circuit Court for sentencing on one count of possession with intent to distribute heroin. The Hon. Judge Thomas D. Horne sentenced Christopher Gleaton to five years in the Virginia Department of Corrections.

In April 2012, the Leesburg Police Department became aware of an individual distributing heroin in the Town of Leesburg. This individual was later identified as Christopher Gleaton. Leesburg Police Detectives arranged for a confidential informant to purchase approximately $200.00 worth of heroin from Gleaton. The transaction was captured on an audio recording device and the six bags that were purchased by the confidential informant were sent to the Virginia Department of Forensic Science for analysis. Analysis revealed that the six bags contained .405 grams of heroin. Gleaton was subsequently charged and arrested for possession with intent to distribute heroin.

Gleaton’s prior criminal history dates back to 1992 and includes nine drug related felony convictions in New Jersey, five of which involve drug distribution.

In addition to the five year active sentence imposed by the Court, Horne also imposed a three year period of post release supervision. Post release supervision conditions are established by the Virginia Parole Board prior to a felon’s release from incarceration. Failure to comply with those conditions can be grounds to terminate the remaining period of post release supervision and return the offender to incarceration.
