. Where can I find information about laws that support fair housing and how do I file a complaint?
This is a terrific question, especially since April is National Fair Housing Month. The Virginia Fair Housing Board administers and enforces national and state fair housing laws. The laws prohibit housing discrimination based on race, color, national origin, sex, disability, familial status (families with children under age 18) and “elderliness” (age 55 or older). If you feel as though you have been discriminated against according to the classes mentioned above, call 804-367-8530 or 888-551-3247, or e-mail FairHousing@dpor.virginia.gov.
