Volunteering Leads to Employment"I started volunteering at the Loudoun Workforce Resource Center in 2016 after my job coach at Didlake Employment Services encouraged me to. Being blind, the staff and I had to get very creative and adapt methods for completing my work tasks. Throughout my time there, everyone at the Center expressed their appreciation and kept me informed of different job opportunities. When they told me about the contact tracer position, I applied and was hired by VDH. I am grateful for everything I have gained from my experience at the WRC. They encouraged me and believed in me and without them I would not have this job. I am grateful for the opportunity I had at the Center and my experience is proof that volunteering can really lead to employment. It was a great day when I could fill out my own "I Got A Job!" form." --K.H., Leesburg, VA
A Valuable Partner"My experience in working with the Loudoun Workforce Resource Center has been outstanding. Mike is the BEST! After our initial introduction, he hit the ground running. The referrals have been qualified, professional, and they meet the criteria and skills we are asking for. I appreciate his responsiveness and keeping us both on the same page. I feel like I’ve known him for forever and that I have a valuable partner in getting job candidates during this difficult time." -- Darren Vilmin, Recruiter, Premier Staffing Source

Why is free financial education so important for residents in Loudoun County? For many of us, achieving our financial goals can feel overwhelming. Building a strong retirement plan, saving for unexpected emergencies, saving for children’s college, purchasing our dream home - we want it all. However, these dreams for our future can look impossible to accomplish. Add to this the high cost of living in Loudoun County, and you may just want to give up!
The Tools for Life Learning Center can provide hope. Empowered with the right knowledge and tools, all of us living in Loudoun County can find a path to reach our financial goals. Workshop topics on personal money management, smart borrowing, saving and investing are just a few of the ways the Learning Center can help Loudoun County residents. How does the Tools for Life Learning Center enrich our community in Loudoun? By connecting experts in the field of personal finances, homeownership, home improvement, and community development to residents of Loudoun County through in-person and virtual workshops, we enrich the lives of the community. Since its launch in November 2018, Tools for Life Learning Center has hosted in-person and virtual workshops with resources, which equip the community with a toolbox of skills to achieve a more successful and sustainable life. So, whether you are looking to boost your financial wellness, get started on a DIY home maintenance project, get ready to purchase your first home, we have the workshops available to help you get ready with the tools needed to achieve these goals. Where can someone register for upcoming workshops? New virtual workshops are held the first and third Thursdays of the month at 2:00 p.m. on Zoom. We are also looking to offer some in-person workshops in the fall. If you are interested in an upcoming workshop, please register at the Loudoun Habitat website. www.loudounhabitat.org/toolsforlife. Past workshops are archived on our website so if your schedule doesn’t match the timing for the virtual live workshops, just check out the Loudoun Habitat website and click on the topic that interest you. And, we are always looking for topics for future workshops. If someone is not sure where to start, they are welcome to contact me at tjensen@loudounhabitat.org or 703-737-6772 x 102 to suggest a topic or get help in deciding which topic is right for them.
